Winged Egyptian Scarab Silver And Gold Earrings

I had etched this pattern in copper and used it as the template for creating a pair of beautiful earrings in silver clay.

The scarab is an ancient Egyptian symbol of rebirth, protection and regeneration often depicted with falcon wings. Scarabs are dung beetles often found rolling dung, but they were held in high regard in ancient Egyptian culture. I find it charming that this humble creature was revered by the Ancient Egyptians who linked it to the God of the rising Sun Khepri. 

After refining the clay earrings and firing them in the kiln for 2 hours at 1650 degrees F I burnished them with 24K Gold Foil, an ancient Korean technique. I painted patina on for color and accent.
