Viking Knit Silver Necklace
Viking Knit Silver Necklace
This necklace is a labor of love. It starts out as copper wire on a large dowel.
When established you can switch to sterling silver as I did. I used as many "petals' to make a thick silver necklace. Viking knit takes a while to accomplish the length you need for a necklace. It is a meditative weaving process, adding lengths of wire as you go along and tucking them inside the rope being created.
When you arrive at the length you want you pull it through a draw plate which makes it longer and slimmer than when it was on the dowel. It also makes the rope thicker and more dense. The ends are inserted into cap or cone beads and the clasp added.
The whole necklace is sterling silver wire, beads and clasp. It is stunning and elegant.
