Ruby Ring With Leaves
Ruby Ring With Leaves
I made this ring right before an important show called Open Studios. The morning of the show a lady came and picked out the ring but decided to purchase a pendant instead. Shortly after that a friend bought the ring. The lady came back that afternoon requesting that ring, so I sized her finger and offered to make her another one. Next week a lady who had seen that ring the previous week asked if it was still available, so I sized her finger as well. I made two new rings of different sizes but the same pattern was the same. So three different ladies were very happy with their new rings.
I made the broad ring band with a chrysanthemum leaf texture. I placed a ruby in the center. I cut out leaf shapes in silver clay and smoothed them onto the band by the ruby on the either side with syringe silver clay. After refining the ring it was fired in the kiln at 1650 degrees F for two hours.
I used the ancient Korean technique called Keum boo to burnish the leaves with 24K Gold foil which really makes the ring pop!
The fact that 3 women are wearing it with joy made me very happy. I will need to make a new one. I will ring size the next one who wishes to have one.
