My friend gathered little pine cones fallen from the Redwood trees when she was hiking. I selected two that were open and pretty similar. I painted them with silver clay paste 10 times waiting for the cones to dry completely between coats.
After kiln firing them, the organic pine cone burned off in the kiln, leaving a 999 pure silver, textured, pine cone. I flattened the tops with a file and soldered a ring on top so that I could insert an ear wire.
I burnished some parts of the cone with 24K Gold foil to fuse it to the 999 pure silver. This process is called Keum Boo. It is tricky in a rounded object. I painted on some patina for accent.
These were time consuming but fun to make.
Dimensions : 1 inch long X a little over 1/2 inch wide. Sterling silver ear wires. These can be switched to comfortable sterling silver clip ons for an additional charge.
