Pinwheel Earrings Silver and Gold

This pattern picked from my Japanese pattern book was printed onto PNP or press and peel paper. A mirror image of the original pattern was created on the printer first. The PNP patterns were burnished on heated sterling silver sheet and then put in an acid bath till a good etch was obtained. The sheet was put in a neutralizing bath then a cleansing bath to scrub off the PNP remnants. After more cleaning the pattern was cut out of the sheet silver using a jeweler's saw. The pieces were heated 6 times and cleaned in a mild acid each time to bring the pure silver to the surface. 24K gold foil was burnished onto the pattern, an ancient technique called Keum Boo. Patina was painted on according to the pinwheel design.
