This beautiful earrings were made as a Custom order as an Anniversary gift. The Lotus is the national flower of India. It symbolizes beauty, purity, enlightenment and rebirth. It is considered the favorite flower of the Buddha and is used as an offering in all Buddhist temples in the East. There is a saying " no mud no lotus" since it grows in mud.
The earrings were designed as a collaboration between the client and me. He liked certain earrings on my website so we tried to incorporate those. A hoop, Lapis Lazuli and the lotus which had significant meaning to him and his wife.
There is a special blue Lotus called Neel Kamal which translates to Blue Lotus which is a symbol of creation and light emerging from darkness hence the title of these earrings.
These were made using silver clay made into hoops. The lotus was superimposed onto the hoop. The hoop texture was chrysanthemum petal, a bezel was placed below the lotus. After firing in a 1650 degree F kiln for 2 hours, 24K Gold foil was burnished onto the petals of the lotus. This technique is ancient Korean and called KeumBoo. Patina was painted on the leaves and the Lapis was enclosed in the bezel.
The recipient was very happy.
Dimensions: 1 and half inches X 3/4 inch. Sterling silver ear wires.
