I have a wooden block print from India. It was used for printing on fabric. I used the lotus pattern from this to make a Lotus pendant. I have used it often over the years and sold all that I have made.
Lotus is a flower that is loved in India for it's beauty, plus the fact that it grows in mud in ponds. It is the national flower of India.
It is said to be Buddha's favorite flower. In Buddhist temples in Thailand we saw fresh lotus buds given in offering. Rich people gave offerings of gilded lotus. Lotus is called Kamal in India.
A layer of silver clay was pressed into this texture to get the impression. The whole block is much bigger but I like the compactness of this lotus and cut it out of the remainder of the texture. After the silver was fired in the kiln for 2 hours at 1645 degrees F what came out was pure 999 silver. I burnished 24K Gold onto parts of the lotus, a process called Keum boo and painted patina on other parts.
Dimensions : I and 1/2 inches long X 1 and 1/4 inches across. Sterling silver snake chain.
PLEASE NOTE this pendant has gone to a happy buyer. However, I can create a similar one if you would like to place a Custom order. It might look a little different since I start from scratch with each piece. For instance the gold and patina may be in a different location.
