Lace Textured Ring
Lace Textured Ring
Amazing textures can be found everywhere. I used some lace for the texture on this ring. I pressed the lace into a long thick strip of silver clay after putting some olive oil spray on the lace so that it would not stick onto the clay. After carefully pulling the lace off the clay and making sure I had parallel lines I rolled the clay onto a ring mandrel of the correct size and rolled the strip of clay over itself to get an interesting appearance. After refining the edges and the inside of the ring it was ready to be fired.
After kiln firing for 2 hours at 1650 degrees F a beautifully textured ring came out. I burnished part of the ring at the fold with 24K Gold foil, an ancient Korean technique called Keum Boo. I left the rest of the ring shiny silver for contrast.
This lovely ring could be worn by anyone. It looks more rugged than delicate even though it's texture came from lace.
