Koi Fish Swimming Earrings
Koi Fish Swimming Earrings
I traced these fish onto a foam pad, then transferred the image to silver clay. After cutting out the forms and drying them, the earrings were fired in a kiln for 2 hours. The organic material burned off leaving pure 999 silver. 24K Gold foil was burnished on to the silver in places, to give the impression of the the red you see on the Koi. This process is called Keumboo and adds brilliance to the piece. Painting on patina gives added colors.
These earrings are very graceful and give the feeling of movement and swimming. Koi fish are symbolic of love and friendship in Japan and in Buddhism. A happy symbol for the wearer of these earrings.
