Hamza is an ornament of protection seen largely in the Middle East and in India. The "Eye" in the center of the palm of the hand is supposed to keep the wearer safe from the Evil eye of spirits or people who might wish the wearer ill. It is for good luck and empowering women.
In India it is known as the Hand of Fatima. It is commonly seen in Turkey. It is well known in the Jewish tradition as well as the Muslim world. It is also called Hamesh.
I etched this in sterling silver and have also made a mold of it so I can make it using silver clay. This one has 24K Gold foil burnished into the silver surface, an ancient technique called Keum Boo. I painted patina on it to get the lovely blue/ purple and green accents. It is a very popular pendant, so I probably need to etch some more pieces.
Dimensions: 1 and 1/2 inches X 1 and 1/4 inches. Sterling Silver Snake chain 18"
