Flower Earrings With Carnelian Center
Flower Earrings With Carnelian Center
My mother was a modest woman, not that interested in jewelry, unlike most women I grew up around, in India. She wore a pair of pure gold earrings with rubies and a pearl. She didn't have a large collection of jewelry and wore the same earrings every day.
These 5 petal flower earrings remind me of her. These were made using silver clay with a chrysanthemum pattern on one side and cobblestone pattern on the other side. Each petal was separately made and arranged around a central bezel so that I could tap in a stone later. The loop at the top was created with a rolled out piece of clay called a "snake". All the pieces were joined using silver syringe clay.
After firing in the kiln the pure silver pieces were heated and 24K Gold foil was burnished onto some of the petals front and back. This process is called Keum boo. an ancient Korean technique. Patina was painted on and the Carnelian stone was tapped into the bezel. The earrings are reversible so they can be worn with the stone showing in the front or on the back.
The ear wires are sterling silver lever backs. These can be changed to comfortable sterling silver clip ons for an additional cost.
These earrings are fun, youthful and will brighten up any outfit as well as the mood of the wearer.
