A beautiful statement piece. The sun or Surya is sacred in India. We get our light and warmth from the sun.
Etching this Sterling Silver Sunburst Pendant is a fun, multi-step process. This design is a selection from my Japanese pattern book, which I then print onto PNP Paper, from which it is burnished onto heated sterling silver sheet. The silver sheet is then floated on an acid bath, and the exposed silver gets etched with the pattern. The silver is then floated in a neutralizing bath.
The piece is cut away from the surrounding metal using a jeweler's saw. The edges are filed and sanded to make them smooth and soft. Then the Sunburst pendant is then heated several times to bring the pure silver up to the surface. 24K Gold foil is burnished on. This process is called Keum boo. Patina is then painted on for added color and accent. I love the resulting blue and coppery colors.
Dimensions : 1 and 1/4 inch diameter. Sterling silver 18 " box chain.
PLEASE NOTE : Please note that all Himani Silver Jewelry pieces are meticulously handmade. Due to this process, there may be a slight variation from one item to the next, which makes them unique to you.
