This pattern was etched onto copper from my Indian pattern book. I sifted transparent rose pink enamel after a clear transparent layer onto the etched side. I used opaque blue enamel on the other side. So in effect you can change the position of the ear wires and you have a second pair of earrings with a different color.
Etching is a fun but time consuming process. You start out with sheet copper You choose the pattern, in this case from my Indian design book, and print it on special paper. You burnish the design on to the heated metal and then peel off the paper. The copper sheet is then floated on an acid bath. The exposed metal gets etched with the selected pattern.
After coming out of the bath the metal has to be neutralized, scrubbed, cut with a jeweler's saw, sanded and polished to make it ready to be enameled.
Dimensions :1 inch X 1 and 1/8th inch
