Ancient Greek Coin Earrings With Owls
Ancient Greek Coin Earrings With Owls
I saw replicas of Ancient Greek Coins with Owls when I was in Greece. Athena, the Goddess of wisdom and warfare loved Owls because they can see in the dark. The owl on her shoulder represented Athena's patronage and authority over the nation.
I decided to make Earrings with this symbol since I too love owls.
I pressed the owl coin stamp into silver clay to get the impression. After refining, the dried clay was kiln fired for 2 hours at 1650K. What came out was pure 999 silver. The "coins" were burnished with 24K Gold foil, an ancient Korean technique called Keum Boo. I painted on patina on the edges of the coins.
Dimensions : Diameter a little over 1/2 inch. Sterling silver Lever backs.
Comfortable Sterling silver clip ons can be requested at an additional cost.
