Etched Sterling Silver Pendant Medieval Celtic Design

This is an etched sterling silver pendant. The pattern was inspired from a medieval British design. Some of the texturing was done by using a hammer tool.

Etching is a fun but time consuming process. You start out with sheet silver. You prepare your pattern, and print it on special paper. You burnish the design on to the heated metal and then peel off the paper. The silver sheet is then floated on an acid bath. The exposed metal gets etched with the selected pattern. The is put in a neutralizing bath. The blue paper is scrubbed off with solvent. The metal strip is cut away from the sheet, filed, sanded to make it smooth then polished.

Patina is painted on for accent.

Dimensions The length of the medallion is almost 2 inches, the diameter is a little over an inch and a half.

The pendant is on a sterling silver box chain.
