This lovely Swan Lake cuff depicts a pattern from India. It shows a Swan on a Lake with the Sun rising on one end of the cuff and a flower at the other end.
Etching is a fun but time-consuming process. You start out with sheet silver. Then burnish the design onto the heated metal. The silver sheet is then floated on an acid bath. The exposed metal gets etched with the pattern. After you have achieved a deep enough etch the silver is neutralized and the blue design is scrubbed off with a solvent.
I cut the rectangular strip out using a jeweler's saw. The piece was filed, sandpapered, and polished to make it shiny and smooth. The cuff was formed on a bracelet mandrel. The pattern was painted with patina to give it amazing blue and green colors.
