I made the mold for these birds off a brass/ copper metal decorative plate I purchased in India.
The earrings I made have proved very popular and I have sold several pairs. I pressed the mold into moist Precious metal clay. After drying and refining the edges I kiln fired them for 2 hours. I burnished 24K gold onto part of the bird's head and wings. This technique is called Keum boo. I painted patina on to other parts of the bird, leaving the rest of the bird shiny silver. I added Turquoise beads as dangle.
These resemble birds I have seen on ancient Indian sculptures and monuments. I am guessing the artisan who made that decorative plate I have, had those same stylized birds in mind.
The earrings look very Indian and festive.
